THE QUIETEST AIRLINE 2010 AWARD CEREMONY
On 30th November, the winners of “The Quietest Airline 2010” competition were announced at a ceremony taking place in Prague Airport’s Terminal 2. Aeroflot is the winner in the jet aircraft category, followed by easyJet and SWISS, while Malev ranked the first in the turboprops category with Lufthansa and Austrian Airlines on the second and third positions. The fourth year of this competition was organised by Prague Airport and the City District of Prague 6 with the aim to motivate airlines to adopt a positive approach to the environment. A part of the award ceremony was also an announcement of winners of the creative competition for scholars from Primary schools in the neighbourhood of Prague Airport.
SPECIAL AIRPORT TOURS WITH ST. NICOLAS
For the second year in a row, Prague Airport will organise special airport tours connected with one of the most popular children holidays, St. Nicolas’ Day. On 1st December, these special excursions will attract both young and older aviation enthusiasts to visit the airport facilities. The airport tours, starting from 4 pm, will be enriched with the presence of Saint Nicholas, accompanied by his Angels and Devils, offering small presents to the visiting children. Admission is free for children and discounted for adults. Discounted parking at the occasion of this event is available for all participating visitors.
CHRISTMAS TRUCK TO START ITS ROADSHOW AT PRAGUE AIRPORT
On 1st December, the Coca-Cola Christmas Truck Tour 2010 will be launched at Prague Airport. An attractive entertaining programme for families with children full of competitions, games, songs and gifts will take place in the Santa’s Christmas village temporarily located in front of the airport’s Terminal 2 between 3 pm and 6 pm. Visitors will be able to send season’s greetings to friends directly from the truck, create their own Christmas tree decorations in the elves workroom or take photos with Santa Claus in his small room.

CHARITY TRAVEL PHOTO EXHIBITON
Prague Airport has introduced a virtual travel photo exhibition at its web portal www.letejtezprahy.cz. This unique e-exhibition presents a number of autographed photos, taken by Czech celebrities on their trips around the world. The photographs include shots by famous Czech actors, film directors, singers or musicians. The principal aim of the project is to help the “People in Need Foundation”. All photos are available for purchase and all profit generated bythis charitable event will be used to support the foundation’s priority projects in Africa and Asia.
NEW EXHIBITION: FROM AIRPORT TO AIRPORT CITY
An exhibition that was presented at the 21st International Building Trade Fair “For Arch” was introduced to the general public in the Prague Airport’s Terminal 2. On eight information panels, airport visitors can learn about such developments as the runway system, operational measures for decreasing noise and coordination of the construction of the airport’s parallel runway with other construction projects of the transport infrastructure in the Czech Republic. The exhibition also presents various photographs of the aircraft types that most frequently land at Prague Airport including their basic technical specifications. Last, but not least, the exhibition features large-scale models of military aircraft borrowed from model building enthusiasts who also happen to be Prague Airport employees. The free exhibition in the departure hall of Terminal 2 will be on display until the end of this year.
OPERATIONS
PRAGUE AIRPORT ENTERED THE PROGRAMME FOR REDUCTION OF CO2 EMISSIONS
Prague Airport has been admitted into the “Airport Carbon Accreditation” programme, a European initiative focused on the reduction of carbon emissions linked to airport operations. There are four levels of accreditation as part of the Airport Carbon Accreditation programme. . Prague Airport, among 16 other European airport operators, was admitted to the first of these levels called “Mapping” which requires a carbon footprint measurement. Each admitted airport needs to map out the areas in which greenhouse gas reduction may be achieved. This will then be followed by the actual steps towards emissions reduction. NETWORK EXPANSION
TRANSAVIA TO LAUNCH NEW PRAGUE-ROTTERDAM ROUTE
Transavia, a Dutch based low cost airline operating as an independent part of the Air France-KLM group, announced its entry into the Czech market. From 21st April 2011, Transavia will launch its new service between Prague and Rotterdam. For the first time, Prague will be connected with the second largest city in the Netherlands. The route will be operated four times a week – on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays, by a Boeing 737-700 aircraft with a capacity of 149 seats. The new connection confirms the trend of growing demand for travels to and from the Netherlands which increased by nearly 10% in the first ten months of 2010. TRAFFIC DEVELOPMENT
In October 2010, Prague Airport handled the total of 1,083,435 passengers, a figure representing an increase by 7% compared with the same period of the last year. The number of aircraft landings and take-offs amounted to 14,069 movement which is 0.8% above the levels of 2009. Air cargo volumes increased significantly by 38,7% year-on-year.
Focusing on passenger traffic types, the exceeding part of the total growth was represented by full service carriers which increased by 8.8%. The charter airlines also experienced a remarkable 4.9% increase while low cost carriers rose by 2.1%.

The TOP 3 countries in terms of passenger traffic in October 2010 were the United Kingdom, Germany and France. A considerable year-on-year rise was achieved on flights between Prague and destinations in Denmark (+38.3%), Russia (+34.6%) and the Netherlands (+22.6%). Paris/Charles de Gaulle, Moscow/Sheremetyevo and Frankurt were the most popular destinations. These routes also increased most impressively together with Copenhagen (+34.4%) and Amsterdam (+26.6%).
