For the sixth time, Prague Airport and Prague 6 Are Announcing Their QUIETEST AIRLINE Competition

Prague 6/1/2012

Prague Airport and Prague 6 are kicking off the 6th Annual QUIETEST AIRLINE competition at Prague Ruzyne International Airport. The competition will run from June until October 2012 – the time during which air traffic is at its most intense. The point of the activity is to motivate airlines in a positive way to take a friendly approach to the natural environment, with an emphasis on the issue of noise.

Prague Airport included the 10 airlines who will make the greatest use of jet aircraft during 2012 in the evaluation, along with 3 airlines in the turboprop category.

Jet aircraft category:

  • Czech Airlines, Travel Service, Lufthansa, easyJet, Air France, Wizz Air, Holidays Czech Airlines, SWISS, British Airways, Aeroflot

Turboprop category:

  • Czech Airlines, Central Connect Airlines, Austrian Airlines

Th latest aviation and flight lane noise mointoring system, ANOMS8, is used to judge the contest. Measuring stations are located in selected localities around Prague/Ruzyne Airport, chosen to ensure adequate measuring capability even as general repairs are being carried out on the main runway.

Contest criteria were selected which make for a long-term positive influence on the acoustic environment surrounding the airport. Among the items evaluated are the noise level for takeoffs and landings, as well as effective use of seating capacity, the so-called aircraft occupancy rate.

“Monitoring maximum compliance with noise limits is a priority for us. That fact has led to the airport receiving a number of awards. This year we are once again doing our utmost to get the best results. The rules have been modified so that operations may be maintained while the main runway undergoes repair,” says Jiri Pos, Letiste Praha CEO.

Adela Veverkova, Chief of Staff for the Prague 6 Mayor’s Office, adds: “We have a long history of working with Prague Airport. We’re especially pleased to contribute to projects that enhance the environment. The QUIETEST AIRLINE contest is just such an activity.”

Detailed rules for the QUIETEST AIRLINE 2012 contest are available on the airport's website at in the Natural Environment section, where ongoing contest results may also be found. Final results will be known by the end of November, 2012.
