A. General information
1. What does a “wireless connection within the Prague Airport premises” stand for?
It is a service you can use to surf internet or log into your company internal network - easy, reliable, wireless. The service is based on WLAN wireless network or as some call it - WiFi. At the Prague airport area you can connect free service WiFi FREE (SSID is prg.aero-free) or service WiFi HotSpot (SSID is prg.aero-hotspot). WiFi HotSpot is the paid part of the service.
2. Are there any limitations to the supplied wireless connection?
The free part of the WiFi service is limited to the maximum speed of 512kb/s and to the use of http services at the standard port 80 only.
The paid part of the WiFi HotSpot service is only limited to the maximum speed of 10 Mb/s, no other limitations apply. The service can only be paid online using a payment card.
3. What types of credit cards do you accept?

Older versions of credit cards of the VISA Electron and Maestro type issued by Czech banks do not support this type of payment. Only the new electronic versions of these cards allow for this type of transaction. If unsure, please contact the bank that has issued your credit card.
4. Can I pay by a bank transfer?
No, no other type of payment apart from the online credit card payment is allowed.
5. What personal data of mine do I have to share with you?
No personal data are required for connecting to the network of prg.aero_free. To connect via the prg.aero_hotspot network, it is necessary to create a personal account. To create a personal account, your e-mail address and nationality will be required. No details regarding your credit card will be revealed to us as the website where you enter the relevant information is a bank website. The bank consecutively only informs us on the validity or invalidity of the payment, respectively, on whether the payment has been accepted and whether enough funds were available to process the transaction.
6. Will Prague Airport share my personal data with a third party?
No.
7. How does WLAN work?
WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) is the technology of wireless networks based on the 802.11b standard. This standard enables a high level of transmission (at speeds of up to 11 Mbit/s) between the receiving and the transmitting unit at a distance of up to 100 metres. The user needs a notebook or portable PC supporting the 802.11 standard or already containing a WLAN card.
8. What is the difference between WLAN, UMTS and GPRS?
WLAN is a technology from the area of local networks, i.e., the common PC-LAN-connection of a company through a radio connection. On the contrary, UMTS and GPRS are traditional mobile radio technologies which make the data communication within mobile radio networks more comfortable and faster. GPRS, UMTS and WLAN thus logically complement one another. As it is not possible to view the cordless phones used for land line connections as a substitute for cell phones, the same principle applies to WLAN as opposed to mobile UMTS.
A typical use of the respective technologies is the following:
- GPRS (General Packet Radio Services) – global coverage of an area
- UMTS (Universal Mobile Telephone Standard) – densely populated areas
- WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) – highly frequented public places or places without demand for extra mobility
