Main Runwayat Prague Airport to Undergo Regular Spring Maintenance

Prague 4/26/2011

From 5/10 until 5/24, Prague Airport will be performing regular maintenance of the runway system. The main runway, RWY 06/24, will undergo repairs after the winter season to make it ready for operation during the time of its most intensive use, the summer season.

The main runway (RWY 06/24) will be closed from 5/10 (8 AM) until 5/24 (2 PM). Traffic will be shifted to the adjacent runway (RWY 13/31), except for nighttime traffic subject to earlier agreements with surrounding municipalities. With regard to weather conditions, landings will take place primarily in the direction leading away from Prague, takeoffs in the direction of Kladno. The just-planned parallel runway will enable the airport to do season maintenance without shifting traffic to the alternate runway.

Nighttime service on the alternate runway will be interrupted during maintenance on the main runway. From midnight until 5 AM, no flights are planned for Prague/Ruzyne Airport. The time period between midnight and 1 AM is exclusively reserved for resolving traffic problems. Planned night flights have been shifted to times before and after the hours of suspension upon consultation with the airlines.

Spring maintenance focuses once again this year on the repair of cracks, service weathering, edges and corners of concrete slabs. It will also include eliminating deposits of rubber at aircraft landing sites. In the final phase, runway markings will be restored and the braking performance of the runway will be improved.

The maintenance work, as always, will be coordinated with Air Traffic Control of the CR in order to minimize its impact on air traffic. Representatives of municipalities and urban areas around the airport will be informed of maintenance dates in advance.
