The Quietest Airline

Long-term, Prague Airport tries to motivate airlines to use modern aircraft and follow the rules to ensure its operations are considerate to the environment, mainly in terms of the noise burden. The QUIETEST AIRLINE contest, organised by Prague Airport in co-operation with the Prague 6 Municipality since 2006, is one of the efficient motivational tools applied. The Contest is organised every year during the summer season when airport operations are the most intense. Alongside noise level parameters of aircraft upon arrival or departure and flight track adherence, aircraft seat capacity use, i.e. load factor, is also evaluated in the contest.

The TANOS monitoring system, which continuously measures air traffic noise and records trajectories of all flights, is used to evaluate the contest. The system includes 14 stationary and 1 mobile measuring stations placed at selected locations in Václav Havel Airport Prague’s vicinity to ensure sufficient information values of the measurements.

Quietest Airline

As every year, the airline servicing the airport in the quietest manner will be awarded. The traditional contest, evaluating alongside noise level parameters of aircraft upon arrival or departure and flight track adherence also aircraft seat capacity use, i.e. load factor, will take place from 1st May to 31st October, i.e. during the time of the most intense airport operations. The goal of the event, annually held by Prague Airport in co-operation with the Prague 6 Municipality, is to positively motivate air carriers to pursue considerate approach to the environment. The winner will be announced during the second half on November.
