Capacity Expertise

Prague Airport Consulting

Many Airports around the world are branded as being the capacity bottlenecks of the ATM system. At the same time Airports are facing the challenge to meet future demand while remaining cost-effective. We offer expertise in evaluating capacities, identification of the capacity bottlenecks and proposals for improvements in efficiency and capacity of the MANOUVERING AREA (including RUNWAYS) and TERMINAL facilities. Our proposal looks at capacities VERSUS the expected Level of Services to be provided. The process is supported by fast time simulations analyzing the various options. Assessment of the operational procedures and unlocking latent capacity is always carefully looked at before considering building new infrastructure.

The capacity consulting project is typically organized in the following three phases:

The Capacity Elements

The expertise is based not just on theory, but on the experience of our consultants from the real airport operations and successful enhancement of airside and terminal capacities at Prague airport. Furthermore, the most modern software applications including the 3D Fast Time Simulation Environment are used to help airports to better understand and visualize capacity issues, identify all the bottlenecks, test proposed solutions in variants and transfer the best ones into the Capacity Action Plan. We think and work together with airports and help them to reach the accurate capacity for the Typical Busy Days in the future and to serve airlines and passengers better.

Our capacity expertise always prefers The Capacity Enhancement through modern and efficient procedures to enhancement through infrastructure improvements. Why? Because unlocking latent capacity by optimization of procedures is quicker in implementation and always a cheaper solution.

The software equipment of Prague Airport Consulting consists of:

  • 3D Fast Time Simulation Software for the assessment of the AIRSIDE operations. It covers operations of aircraft at stands, aprons, taxiways, runways, handling and de-icing processes, operations of ground service vehicles and aircraft movements in the ARR/DEP sectors,TMAand surrounding airspace.
  • 3D Fast Time Simulation Software for the assessment of the TERMINAL operations, movement of passengers, visitors, staff and baggage through the terminal or finding the best place for the retail units etc.
  • AeroTURN Pro, the premier CAD software for carrying out aircraft turn simulations and swept path analysis to evaluate spatial requirements on stands, aprons, taxiways, runways, and other airport facilities. A powerful solution for gate design layouts and bridge docking scenarios using libraries of passenger boarding bridges, ground support vehicles and towbar and towbarless tractors.
  • CRED– the application for computing the optimal distance of the turn-off TWYs from theRWYthreshold for specific aircraft types and performances, weather and surface conditions.

Prague Airport has one of the most sophisticated and well-organized capacity planning processes amongst European airports.

Remember... the process is applicable at your airport as well!
