Prague Airport has introduced the second technological advancement to its passengers in a short time. Following the launch of operations of the Virtual Information Service kiosk, the airport is now conducting test runs of self-service baggage claim kiosks. Their primary role is to assist passengers with reporting lost baggage. The kiosks are located in the customs areas of both Terminals, close to the baggage reclaim carousels.

Prague Airport co-operated financially with both handling companies active at the airport during the kiosk implementation phase. Menzies Aviation will manage the kiosk in Terminal 1, while Czech Airlines Handling will oversee operations of the Terminal 2 kiosk.

“Working with Prague Airport, we have decided to pilot a new way of claiming lost baggage. The system was designed to improve both the passenger experience and simplify the work of our employees in charge of baggage claims. Passengers travelling within the Schengen area who are not able to reclaim their baggage from the assigned carousel will now be able to fill in an online report using the self-service baggage claim kiosk, forward it to their operating airline, and submit the address for their baggage delivery. Air France/KLM, Lufthansa, Swill Air Lines, Austrian Airlines, SAS and airBaltic, of the airlines using our handling services at Václav Havel Airport Prague, have joined the kiosk pilot run,” Kateřina Pavlíková, Czech Airlines Handling Spokesperson, said.

The new kiosks provide the option of completing the online report in nine world languages. This feature will make lost baggage claiming easier for passengers from non-English-speaking countries. “The fact that the kiosks automatically submit the lost baggage report to all companies handling flights which the passenger took before landing in Prague is an immense advantage. It will be a lot easier to share information in cases where the baggage is lost during transfer,” Tomáš Vláčil, Director of Prague Airport Terminal Operations, added.

By implementing baggage claim kiosks in its service portfolio, Prague Airport has joined selected world airports with similar systems introduced in the past. These include airports in Scandinavia and the kiosks are also widely used in New Zealand. Within the Central-European region, they still represent a novelty.
