Most Frequently Asked Questions Regarding Airport COVID-19 Testing
  1. How long will it take to receive the result of the RT-PCR test?
The PCR test results are shared with the tested person in standard mode within 12 to 24 hours via an SMS message sent to a mobile phone number with the client's international country code or via e-mail. GHC Genetics, which performs testing at the airport, is responsible for the processing of the results. There is also an express testing service available, under which the results are communicated to the passenger within two hours of sampling.
  2. In what form will I receive the result?
Via an SMS message sent to a mobile phone number with the client's international country code using a secure link in compliance with the Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). If the client has also purchased an international certificate of infectivity, this document will be delivered to his/her e-mail address.
  3. Is a negative PCR test result sufficient for entering the destination to where I fly from Václav Havel Airport Prague?
For updated information on the rules of specific countries and the current measures applied when crossing state borders, please contact the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic at www.mzv.cz.
  4. Where are the check points at Václav Havel Airport Prague located?
To facilitate testing directly at the airport, Prague Airport has currently set up two commercial check points. One check point is located in the public area of the airport in the connecting corridor between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Another check point is located airside in the non-public area of Terminal 1 before entering the passport control area.
  5. What are the airport check points opening hours?
Testing at the point located in the connecting corridor between terminals is available to passengers at Václav Havel Airport Prague daily from 4.00 a.m. to midnight, while the operating hours of the point located airside in Terminal 1 before entering the passport control area are from 7:00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m.
  6. How much does it cost to take the test at the airport?
The price charged by GHC Genetics for the standard RT-PCR COVID-19 test is EUR65 (CZK1,750). The price for express performance of the test with delivery of results within two hours is EUR280 (CZK7,500). The surcharge for confirmation of the test results by a doctor, including an international certificate if requested by the passenger, is EUR20 (CZK550).

There is also an express testing service using a special technology available at the airport, under which the RT-PCR test results are communicated to the passenger within two hours. Thus, the option represents an alternative where passengers need to know the result as soon as possible.
Fast Track (Priority Pass) – this service will ensure your priority status in cases of queues at the check point, the results are delivered within the standard timeframe, i.e. within 24 hours.
  9. Am I obliged to report the RT-PCR test result to a local health station?
Yes, you are obliged to immediately report the result of the RT-PCR COVID-19 test to a local health station according to your place of residence or planned stay. The client is obliged to report a COVID-19 positive test result to the health station. The laboratory does not report test results to the health station.
  10. Do small children have to be tested, too?
Yes, in order to meet the specific conditions when crossing the state borders of a given state subject to the aforementioned examination and the RT-PCR COVID-19 test, it is necessary to test all people, irrespective of their age.

The taking of samples at the check points is performed on a queue basis. Due to high demand, it is not possible to book the test time in advance.
  12. I have a doctor’s note requesting an RT-PCR COVID-19 test. Can I have the test performed at the airport?
No, airport testing is intended primarily for passengers with valid tickets, boarding passes or reservations. The service may also be used by self-payers provided the testing capacity so allows. The service is not designed for indicated patients with a doctor's prescription to get tested.

The sample collection is performed using a disposable swab which is inserted through one nostril deep into the back of the nose. The virus multiplies in the mucous membrane cells of the upper respiratory tract. To facilitate testing directly at the airport, Prague Airport has set up commercial check points where passengers can be tested for the presence of the virus causing COVID-19 and obtain the necessary note on test results either after their return to the Czech Republic or before their departure abroad. GHC Genetics healthcare professionals provide the testing using an accredited laboratory to analyse the samples collected. One check point is located in the public area of the airport in the connecting corridor between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. It is intended primarily for departing passengers who need a negative test result to enter their final destination, but can also be used by arriving passengers. In case of increased demand, base on the current air traffic, another testing point, located airside in the non-public area of Terminal 1 before entering the passport control area, can resume its operations. This point is primarily intended for arriving passengers, who are either obliged, pursuant to the measures in effect, upon their return, to submit a negative RT-PCR COVID-19 test result with regard to the destination from which they are travelling to the local Health Office based on their place of stay, or who want to take the test voluntarily to ensure their good health. The new airport service is primarily designed to help reduce the spread of the disease and to facilitate safe travelling.

Testing at the point located in the connecting corridor between terminals is available to passengers and the general public at Václav Havel Airport Prague daily from 4.00 a.m. to midnight, while the operating hours of the point located airside in Terminal 1 before entering the passport control area are adjusted based on demand. The samples taken at the airport are analysed at a remote workplace fitted for the purpose and the test results are shared with the tested person in a standard mode within 12 to 24 hours via SMS forwarded to the mobile phone number with international country code provided by the tested person or via e-mail. GHC Genetics is in charge of the test processing time.

There is also an express testing service, using a special technology, available, under which the PT-PCR test results are communicated to the passenger within two hours. They can wait for the results directly at the airport or receive their results via SMS forwarded to the mobile phone number with international country code provided by the tested person or via e-mail. Thus, the option represents an alternative where passengers need to know the result as soon as possible.

In general, we recommend passengers who need to provide a negative COVID-19 test result at check-in or directly at their final destination and want to take the test at the airport to allow sufficient time to perform the test and receive the result factoring in their time of departure from Prague.

The taking of samples at the check points is performed on a queue basis. For high demand reasons, it is not possible to pre-set the time of testing.

In the event of a high passenger demand for COVID-19 test, GHC Genetics will promptly increase the capacity of the checkpoint by adding an extra counter, which will be located at the same place as the current testing point in the connecting corridor between terminal buildings.

GHC Genetics is the provider of the service. The price for the standard RT-PCR COVID-19 test is EUR65 (CZK1,750). The price for express performance of the test with delivery of results within two hours is EUR280 (CZK7,500). The surcharge for confirmation of test results by a doctor, if requested by the passenger, is EUR20 (CZK550). Payment is accepted at both check points, via debit cards and cash, using Czech crowns or Euros
