The Prague Airport Board of Directors has five members since this January. Martin Kučera won the open competition for the new position. His current role as Executive Director of Air Operations is to be terminated at the same time his new role on the Board of Directors commences. The competences of the new member of the Board of Directors include the areas of Operation and Safety. Both agendas are thus transferred from the Chairman of the Board, who will continue to oversee the areas of Aviation Business Development, Quality and Safety Procedures Management, Communication, Legal Affairs, and Corporate Governance. By expanding the Board of Directors, the Prague Airport management echelon returns to the standard mode from the pre-Covid-19 period.

Jiří Pos, Chairman of the Prague Airport Board of Directors, wishes the new member good luck in his new role. “He definitely deserves to be promoted to the Board of Directors, and I believe that he will be able to transfer his operational experience into the highest management role. Martin has been working at the airport for 18 years. He began writing his career story here as an Apron Operation Dispatcher and gradually worked his way up professionally and through further education to the position of Executive Director of Air Operations. I believe the Safety and Operations Departments will continue to move forward under his leadership.”

Martin Kučera perceives his promotion, among other things, as an opportunity to interconnect the areas and functions of the airport which are to be under his supervision. “I would like to direct the operational and security units towards even greater interconnectedness and a higher degree of cooperation. In my opinion, their cooperation is an inevitable part of our future. At the same time, it is an opportunity for me to take full responsibility for the future of the airport, also from the point of view of its development and expansion, which we have recently presented. It’s time to move from drawings to actions and actual implementation. Last but not least, it is a commitment and a step which gives me the confidence to be directly involved in setting the direction of the airport for many years to come.”

At the beginning of November, representatives of the shareholder informed Martin Kučera that the open competition committee had evaluated him as the most suitable candidate for the then vacant position of a member of the Board of Directors. At the end of November, his nomination was subsequently discussed before the final confirmation by the shareholder at the Committee for Personnel Nominations at the Office of the Government of the Czech Republic. At the end of December, the Minister of Finance appointed Mr. Kučera to the Prague Airport Board of Directors.

Martin Kučera’s Profile

Martin holds an engineering degree in Aviation from the Czech Technical University in Prague and an MBA in Tourism and Transport Management. He started his career at Prague Airport in 2005 as an Airport Operation Control Dispatcher responsible for the safety of airport ground operations. In 2006, he became an airport engineer and as a Project Manager was involved in improvement, development, and expansion projects and the implementation of A-CDM procedures. After five years of gaining valuable experience and expertise, Martin was appointed Director of Terminal Operations. He focused on aircraft/airport/passenger integration issues, capacity and efficiency improvements, and many other terminal operations enhancing projects. In 2014, Martin moved to the position of Director of Airport Operations to oversee airport operations development projects involving both the terminal and ground areas of the airport. Since 2017, Martin has held the position of the Executive Director of Air Operations. His agenda gradually grew to include the maintenance of airport areas, the fire and rescue brigade, and monitoring compliance with EASA regulations.
