Operational measures for decreasing noise

The following procedures are set for decreasing noise at Václav Havel Airport Prague:

Night flight restrictions

Take-offs and landings of aircraft with MTOW greater than 45 t except aircraft included in the list of aircraft types permitted for night operation are not permitted from 2100 (2000) to 0500 (0400).

Take-offs and landings of aircraft with MTOW greater than 45 t which are listed in the list of aircraft types permitted for night operation from 2100 (2000) to 0500 (0400) are permitted. Each particular aircraft is obliged to comply with standards for being listed in one of noise categories from 1 to 9 in accordance with AIP CR GEN 4.1.1.4. The number of planned flights is restricted by traffic regulation for night operation.

Take-offs and landings of aircraft with MTOW less or equal to 45 t are permitted from 2100 (2000) to 0500 (0400). Each particular aircraft is obliged to comply with standards for being listed in one of noise categories from 1 to 9 in accordance with AIP CR GEN 4.1.1.4. The number of planned flights is restricted by traffic regulation for night operation.

Exemption for aircraft which comply with standards for being listed in one of noise categories from 1 to 9 in accordance with AIP CR GEN 4.1.1.4, which are not listed in the list of aircraft permitted for night operation, can by granted only by the aerodrome operator upon the aircraft operator request. The aircraft operator shall append the documents according to AIP CR GEN 4.1.1.4 to the request. The request shall be send to address according to AIP CR GEN 4.1.1.4.5.

Runway system preferences

RWY in use will be determined in following order:

  • RWY 24
  • RWY 06
  • RWY 30
  • RWY 12

Take-off and landing of jet aircraft with MTOW of more than 7 tons must customarily be performed from RWY 06/24. Arrivals on RWY 12 or departures from RWY 30 are also allowed in time from 0500 to 2100 (0400-2000).

In the event of the RWY being inoperative or in other cases precisely defined in the AIP CR LKPR AD 2.21.2 (i.e. insufficient braking effects, adverse weather conditions) take-offs and landings are permitted from the other RWY as well while following the conditions specified in the AIP CR at the same time.

Rules for executing arrivals and departures from the point of view of the angle of descent, possible diversion from runway heading or SID and departure procedures for jet aircraft (i.e. the position of the flaps, decreasing motor performance) are also specified in the AIP CR LKPR AD 2.21.3 and 2.21.4.

Aircraft movements (take-offs and landings) at Václav Havel Airport Prague are continually monitored via 14 monitoring stations as a part of Noise and Track Monitoring System.

Aircraft Stands

Aprons at the Prague/Ruzyně airport:

  • Apron NORTH – passenger flights
  • Apron EAST – cargo flights
  • Area SOUTH – GA/BA flights and state important flights (governmental flights)

Apron NORTH

Apron NORTH

Apron NORTH is located in the north area of Václav Havel Airport Prague close to Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. The apron is intended for passenger flights to/from countries within the Schengen area and outside of the Schengen area.

The total number of available stands depends on configuration (e.g. wide-body aircraft stand can be alternatively used as two narrow-body aircraft stands), season (some of the aircraft stands are used as de-icing stands during the winter season) and operational measures.

All contact stands are equipped with VDGS (Visual Docking Guidance System), PBB (Passenger Boarding Bridge), GPU (Ground Power Unit) and almost all with PCA (Preconditioned Air Unit).  Most contact stands designed for wide-body aircraft are equipped with two PBBs, two GPUs and one or two PCA units. One stand offers a triple PBB with one bridge for upper deck of Airbus A380, four GPUs and two PCA units with four hoses.

Stand allocation is based on aircraft dimensions, type of flight and operational needs, however our goal is to guarantee optimal fulfillment of commercial goals of each airline. The airline (or its handling partner) can therefore fill out a request form with specified stand preferences for the whole operational season.   

Apron EAST

Apron EAST intended for cargo flights is located in the eastern part of Václav Havel Airport Prague next to cargo terminals. Apron EAST is available for handling of aircraft up to size of Boeing 747-8, Antonov An-124, Lockheed C5 for regular operations.

Area SOUTH

Area SOUTH is located in the south area of Václav Havel Airport Prague close to Terminal 3 and Terminal 4. It is intended for general and business aviation flights and state important flights (governmental flights). It consists of main apron SOUTH and Apron Bell (primarily intended for Bell Textron Prague customers).

Winter operations

De-icing

Companies providing de-icing of an aircraft

The following companies are authorized to carry out de-icing at the Václav Havel Airport Prague:

  • Czech Airlines Handling
  • Czech GH
  • Menzies Aviation (Czech)

De-icing places

Area NORTH

The de-icing of an aircraft is allowed on the following designated places:

  • De-icing area 1 – is located on TWY Z between Apron EAST and THR RWY24.
  • De-icing area 2 – is located on TWY Z at the level of TWY AA.
  • De-icing area 3 – is located on TWY AA.
  • De-icing area 4 – is located on stands 50 (50A) and 51.
  • De-icing area 5 – is located on stand 58 (58A and 58B).
  • De-icing area 6 – is located on stands 62 and 63. It´s use is allowed in due cases.
  • De-icing on TWY J in section between TWY H and TWY G – allowed only in special cases.

Area EAST

The de-icing of an aircraft is allowed on all stands on Apron EAST.

Area SOUTH

The de-icing of an aircraft is allowed on stands S1 - S9 on Apron SOUTH (only aircraft with MTOW up to 13 t). 

Snow Removal

Equipment used for cleaning snow from the movement area of the airport

  • tractors with Y−snowplough blade

Clearance priorities for the snow removal

  1. Main RWY in use, main TWYs connecting RWY in use with apron NORTH, apron NORTH − minimum number of stands + TWYs, Deicing areas.
  2. Exit areas from stations for Fire Fighting Rescue Service stations, fuelling tank trucks depot, entries to equipment of Aeronautical Meteorological Service and radio-navigation aids related to RWY in use, main routes for aircraft towing.
  3. Second RWY.
  4. Aprons in areas SOUTH and EAST.
  5. Other areas of apron NORTH.
  6. Apron Bell, remaining stands in areas SOUTH and EAST, other routes for aircraft towing.
  7. Other parts of movement area, parking and manipulation areas, other equipment of Aeronautical Meteorological Service and radio-navigation aids.

Use of material for movement surface treatment

Potassium acetate in liquid state (KAC) or sodium acetate in solid state (NAAC) is used for de−icing or anti−freeze treatment of movement area.
