Prague Airport has announced a tender procedure for operators of a seven stores focusing on the travel essentials category. These stores should, for example, sell magazines, snacks or various travel accessories and essentials. The deadline for submitting bids closes on 2 August, and the basic lease term is five years.

“Our goal is to make sure that these 7 stores provide travellers with everything they might need during their flight or on their subsequent journey. This therefore, means retail sales offering a wide range of goods belonging to the travel essentials category. This includes small products such as magazines, tobacco, small snacks and various travel accessories,” describes Jiří Petržilka, Executive Director of the non-aviation business sector at Prague Airport.
The store operator will be selected through a tender procedure that the airport has already announced. Interested applicants should have been conducting continuous business activities focusing on “travel essentials” for the past five years. At the same time, applicants are required to have operated at least 30 travel essentials stores during the past three years, of which, at least two should be located at major transportation hubs (airports, train or bus stations).

When evaluating the submitted bids, half of the tender criteria will focus on financial issues and half on qualitative issues, which in addition to other skills shall include the ability of the vendor to continually adapt to different passengers, original store layout and variety of offered goods, as well as the quality of staff and logistics. “Considerable attention is also paid to the ability of the prospective tenant, he store operator, to effectively utilise the digital sector and e-commerce. We therefore demand that participants present their previous e-commerce experience under the tender proceedings and suggest how they see their future cooperation. At the same time, the operator should quantify and specify the use of the multi-channel sales method and customer relationship in terms of the expected increase in sales and sales maximisation,” explains Jiří Petržilka in regards to the requirements of Prague Airport as part of the concession procedure.

Bids must be submitted by August 2. The winner of the tender procedure should be announced during September. The lease contract is to be concluded for five years. Travellers can expect to see the new sale stores in January 2020.
