30. 9. 2025Travelling from Václav Havel Airport Prague will become a little more convenient. Thanks to modern CT X-ray machines, which were deployed in Terminal 2 last May and successfully recertified at the end of August, the rules for transporting liquids on board aircraft will be significantly relaxed from 1 October 2025. Passengers departing from Terminal 2 will be able to carry one container of liquid over 100 millilitres and up to a volume of 2 litres per person, in addition to one standard one-litre bag with containers up to 100 millilitres.“Recent customer surveys have shown there has been a higher passenger satisfaction rate in the summer months since the installation of CT X-rays in Terminal 2 because it is no longer necessary to remove electronics and liquids from hand baggage at security screening for separate checks. We are also now allowing the transport of larger quantities of liquids, which is a significant step forward,” said Martin Kučera, member of the Prague Airport Board of Directors responsible for operations and security.Which new rules are applied?Effective 1 October 2025, the rules differ based on the terminal from which passengers depart.Terminal 1 (travel outside the Schengen Area):Rules remain unchanged; only liquids up to 100 ml placed in a transparent bag with a maximum content of 1 litre are allowed. Liquids over 100 ml are not allowed.Terminal 2 (travel within the Schengen Area):Now, 1 additional container with liquids over 100 ml up to a maximum volume of 2 litres per person (e.g., cosmetics, food, and soft or alcoholic beverages) + liquids up to 100 ml placed in a transparent bag with a maximum content of 1 litre are allowed. In addition, at security screening points with CT X-rays, it is not necessary to remove electronics and liquids from hand baggage.Prague Airport purchased 6 CT X-rays for Terminal 2 this year and plans to purchase 2 more next year. At the remaining screening tracks in Terminal 2 with conventional X-ray machines, larger quantities of liquids are also permitted for transport, but passengers must still remove electronics and liquids from their hand baggage. Passengers are always reminded of this fact via an information board or by security screening officers on site. Why are different rules applied in each terminal building? The change in liquid limits is possible thanks to the installation of modern CT X-ray machines, which increase both security and the seamlessness of the screening process. Terminal 1 is not yet equipped with this technology. As part of the planned modernisation of Václav Havel Airport Prague, a construction of a central security screening point in this terminal is also scheduled, similar to the one passengers now experience in Terminal 2. Prague Airport is also preparing to modernise Terminal 2, where the current length of the screening tracks does not allow for the introduction of an even larger volume of liquids without the risk of overloading the system.“Our goal is to analyse operations in the long term and, in the event of positive results, gradually allow additional volumes of liquids. However, we believe that even this partial change is a significant benefit for passengers. The planned modernisation of the airport is all the more necessary for us, especially for the greater comfort of passengers, who will be able to enjoy modern spaces with the latest technology,” Martin Kučera added.Passenger ReminderPrague Airport reminds travellers that the rules for transporting liquids may vary at different airports, depending on the availability of modern X-ray technology and space options. Therefore, it is recommended to always check the rules for transporting liquids applied at the airport from which passengers are flying back to Prague before their travel.Irrespective of the above restrictions, exceptions still apply for:baby foodspecial nutritionliquids required due to a medical conditionChecked baggage is still subject to the same rules. Prague Airport highlights the following items:Power banks, laptops, and electronic cigarettes belong in hand baggage.Small electronics (e.g., toothbrushes and razors) may be carried in checked baggage, but they must be secured against spontaneous activation to prevent the risk of additional inspections and flight delays.Prohibited items: flammables, volatile substances, weapons, explosives, etc. are not allowed in any baggage. For up-to-date information on security rules and recommendations, please visit the Security Screening | Václav Havel Airport Prague page.Contact for media Prague Airport Spokesperson Denisa Hejtmánková +420 601 131 812 denisa.hejtmankova@prg.aero
