Air Traffic to Be Sequentially Redirected to Secondary Runway for Two Weeks Due to Maintenance

At the turn of April and May 2023, air traffic at Václav Havel Airport Prague will be moved in sequences to the secondary runway 12/30. Scheduled maintenance and calibration of radio-navigation equipment will take place on the main runway 06/24 and related apron areas between 24 April and 5 May 2023. The traffic redirection to the secondary runway will take place depending on the weather and only during daytime operations from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Experts will perform technical and construction activities related to increasing the main runway traffic safety, as reported by the Airport Operations Director, Václav Válek. “In addition to regular pre-season maintenance, there will also be regular geodetic verification measurements, inspection of the lighting equipment, and the already mentioned calibration of radio-navigation equipment carried out.”

“We are aware that the use of the secondary runway will, once again, increase aircraft traffic over the densely populated parts of Prague and Kladno. Therefore, we would like to reiterate that the only systemic solution for the future is the implementation of the parallel runway project,” Jiří Pos, Chairman of the Prague Airport Board of Directors, said.

The direction of traffic (take-offs towards Prague or Kladno) depends on the current meteorological conditions, especially the wind. However, the preferred direction for landing is from the direction of Prague, while take-offs are best towards Kladno.
