Air traffic at Prague Airport will, once again, be redirected to the secondary 12/30 runway for three months. From 28 March to 1 July, scheduled maintenance and postponed repairs will be performed on the main 06/24 runway and connected areas. The airport webcam will also be moved to the side runway. Thanks to this, the online feed from Prague Airport will not be interrupted.

The secondary runway will be in operation in its full length of 3,250m. Experts will perform technical and construction activities aimed at increasing traffic safety on the main runway. “In addition to regular maintenance, an important reconstruction of taxiway B leading to the runway will be carried out, and an increase in the capacity of part of the cable duct for lighting the runway will be facilitated. These two jobs are the most time consuming, and have the greatest effect on increasing operational safety,” Václav Válek, Director of Airport Operations, said.

"We are aware that the use of the secondary runway will result in an inappropriate increase in aircraft traffic over densely populated parts of Prague and Kladno, but the only systematic solution with regard to future operations is the implementation of the parallel runway project," Jiří Pos, Chairman of the Prague Airport Board of Directors, added.

The necessary further modifications to the main runway are related to the implementation of the operational safety requirements pursuant to the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) legislation.

The direction of traffic (departure in the direction of Prague or Kladno) depends on the current meteorological conditions, especially wind. However, the preferred way comprises landing from the direction of Prague and take-offs towards Kladno.
