Prague Airport Reports Operating Profit and Two-Billion Increase Year-on-Year

Prague Airport reported an operating profit (EBITDA) of 2.2 billion crowns last year, representing a significant increase compared to 2021, when this indicator was at 190 million crowns. In terms of net economic results, the Company recorded a profit of 283 million crowns in 2022, which is a significantly better outcome compared to 2021, when the Company closed its books with a loss of almost a billion CZK, mainly due to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The 2022 economic results were positively influenced by a noticeable increase in the number of handled passengers, with 10.7 million travellers passing through the gates of Prague Airport last year. A year earlier, there were only 4.4 million passengers. The economic results of Prague Airport should also be considered exceptional as the Czech Republic, together with Finland, Great Britain, and Ireland, was most affected by the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. The impact of the conflict in Ukraine also played a negative role.

“Prague Airport more than doubled the number of handled passengers year-on-year and increased its operating profit by 2 billion crowns. Despite a lower number of employees than optimal, the airport has bounced back from the Covid-19 ultimate low. I expect it to continue to gradually return to the previous volume this year and profits enabling the continuation of planned investments,” Zbyněk Stanjura, Minister of Finance, said commenting on the economic results.

“Last year, thanks to responsible management, we implemented investment projects with a value in excess of 1.1 billion crowns. The largest projects comprised the complex reconstruction of Terminal 3 and taxiways, and the replacement of spare power sources for the main runway,” Jiří Pos, Chairman of the Prague Airport Board of Directors, added. During 2022, Václav Havel Airport Prague was connected by direct routes with 147 destinations thanks to the offer of 58 carriers. Prague Airport expects to exceed the threshold of 13 million handled passengers this year.
