A Flying Figure with a Bright Red Heart

In Terminal 2, just beyond the security checkpoint, visitors can admire a monumental tapestry by world-renowned artist Peter Sís. Measuring 5 × 4.25 meters, this textile installation depicts a flock of white birds forming the silhouette of a flying figure with a bright red heart—an homage to a signature element often associated with Václav Havel.

The tapestry is based on Sís’s 2011 illustration The Last Audience, created as a tribute to the late president. Thanks to an initiative by Bill Shipsey of Art for Amnesty, the illustration was transformed into textile form by master weavers in Aubusson, France. The project was funded by global artists including Bono and The Edge of U2, Peter Gabriel, Sting, and Yoko Ono.

Unveiled on December 9, 2012, the tapestry serves as a lasting reminder to travelers of Václav Havel’s legacy as a symbol of freedom, human rights, and civic courage.
