Cyprus – Paradise of Sun and Monuments

Beautiful beaches, turquoise sea, an extensive offer of water sports, rich history, breath-taking landscape, and excellent cuisine – this is Cyprus, an island boasting up to 300 sunny days a year.

Larnaca is the gateway to Cyprus, the oldest city of Cyprus, and a modern and bustling centre with a characteristic coastal promenade lined with palm trees and ancient monuments. The church of St. Lazarus, with the tomb of St. Lazarus, is definitely worth a visit. There is also a large Archaeological Museum, an aqueduct, and a medieval fortress with a medieval museum. From Larnaca, you can easily reach other richly historical areas of Cyprus. For example, visit the birthplace of Aphrodite (the Petra tou Romiou bay, today Aphrodite’s beach in the southwestern part of the island) and the remains of Aphrodite’s temple a few kilometres from Paphos. In Limassol, you can admire Islamic mosques, the ruins of the original city-kingdom of Amathus, the temple of Apollo, and the castle of Kolossi. Interesting places include the Kykkos monastery in the Troodos mountain range and the ghost town of Varosha.

After visiting the sights, relaxing by the sea and the popular local cuisine will surely be a welcome change of pace. The most beautiful beaches can be found in Agia Napa and Protaras. As for food, the national dish of Cyprus is ofto kleftiko (mutton with potatoes), and the traditional Cypriot sweet wine of Commandaria is also very tasty.
