Atmosphere, wine and football

Imposing buildings, world-class architecture, so much delicious food, drinks and fun. This all characterises Madrid, the capital city of Spain.

It boasts countless charming squares of which the most popular is Plaza Mayor, lined with red historic houses. The city landmark is the Europe’s largest complex of royal palaces. Another cultural experience which will enthuse you is the Prado, a gallery visited by art lovers from around the world to see, with their own eyes, artworks by Goya, Rembrandt and many other world-recognised artists. No less precious items can be found in the monumental Museum of Queen Sofia, including one of the world’s most famous paintings – Guernica by Pablo Picasso. It is also interesting to visit the soccer stadiums of the local clubs Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid.

The beauties of Madrid's nature

Madrid is not only about the bustle of the city, but also about the vast green areas of the local parks. Visit one of Europe’s most beautiful parks, Buen Retiro Park which is situated in the very heart of the city. The former royal park is the place for romantic walks or sports activities.

Moreover, try the local specialities – churro, a traditional dessert made of doughnut dough, or omelettes called tortilla espaňola. And if you do not want to insult the hospitable local inhabitants, try their home-made wine.
